The Neuroscience TRC is committed to development of transformational therapeutics for patients with neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases. We have built a network of external partnerships across multiple treatment modalities (small molecules, biologics and RNA targeting) that leverage our leadership in protein homeostasis and inflammation to attack neurodegenerative, neuromuscular and neuropsychiatric diseases.Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following approaches:Disease modifying therapies for neurodegenerative, neuro-inflammatory and neuromuscular diseases; CNS targets that modulate protein homeostasis, protein clearance, inflammation and reduce or eliminate toxic protein production; Neuropsychiatric symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases; Emerging technologies (RNA targeting) that when matched to underlying disease genetics can deliver a precision medicine portfolio with a high probability of success to address unmet medical needs; Targets in neuromuscular diseases. Use approaches in cellular, preclinical and translational tools and technologies such as multiomics in tissue and fluid samples to identify novel biomarkers to track drug-target interactions and disease impact.Here, you'll get the chance to grow and thrive through opportunities that are uncommon in scale and scope. You'll pursue innovative ideas while advancing professionally alongside some of the brightest minds in biopharma.Position Summary: This is a lab-based position in the Cambridge, MA site and reports to the Principal Scientist, Translational Biomarker Development, Neuroscience. The Senior Associate Scientist will be part of the Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (Neuro-TRC) that leverages external collaborations and internal research to establish a diverse portfolio targeting unmet needs in neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory, neuromuscular and neuropsychiatric diseases. Consistent with the overall Neuroscience TRC strategic model, the individual will design and deliver laboratory data to support the progression of drug candidates towards clinical proof-of-concept. To accomplish these tasks, the Senior Associate Scientist will work in the lab independently with guidance from the Principal Scientist and in collaborative efforts with other members of the Neuroscience TRC and BMS Research organization. In addition, the Senior Associate Scientist will support work with internal and external collaborators (CROs, academic laboratories, research consortia). The successful candidate will have a well-established track record of collaborative work in fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment. In the role as a Senior Associate Scientist within the Neuroscience Translational Biomarker Development group, the ideal candidate will:

  • Design and conduct experiments with guidance from the Principal Scientist to explore, develop and validate novel fluid and tissue-based biomarkers.
    • Perform ligand binding molecular assays, such as ELISA, Meso-scale discovery, SIMOA, etc. for biomarker assay development.
    • Perform and interpret qPCR, dd-PCR, RNAseq, etc. for support of biomarker development efforts.
    • Have hands-on experience with primary and iPSC cell culture, specifically neuronal and glial cultures systems.
      • In collaboration with Global Biospecimen Inventory Management, manage TRC specimens for target engagement and biomarker development.
      • Organize data and maintain thorough records via electronic laboratory notebook.
      • Prepare and present data and interpretations to manager and within BMS sub-team meetings and externally when feasible.
      • Develop/maintain knowledge of the current literature to understand novel concepts and targets.Basic Qualifications:
        • Bachelor's Degree
          • 4+ years of academic and / or industry experienceOr
            • Master's Degree
              • 2+ years of academic and / or industry experiencePreferred Qualifications:
                • BA/BS or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with specialization in neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, or similar and 4+ years of academic and / or industry experience, or MS in life sciences and 2+ years of academic and / or industry experience.
                • Embraces being highly accountable for timelines and deliverables.
                • Solid understanding of the principles of translational assay development with hands-on experience in immunoassay and molecular assay development (ELISA, Meso-scale discovery, SIMOA, qPCR, dd-PCR, RNAseq, etc.).
                • Hands-on experience with primary and iPSC cell culture, specifically neuronal and glial cultures systems.
                • Thorough understanding of immune modulatory approaches and experimental models, including FACS and flow cytometry.
                • Detailed knowledge and track record (as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals) in principals of neuroscience, molecular biology,
                • Experience in managing biorepositories of preclinical and clinical samples (tissues, biofluids, etc).
                • Experience transferring assays to contract research organizations for analysis in multi-site clinical trials.
                • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
                • Organizational skills and record keeping.
